Hi, Bernard. If you usually drive on roads with surface in perfect condition(sport tracks), you can use custom 20" set: 245/50 R20 on 20X 8.5J PCD 5x114.3 ET35 DIA72.6. But you are right, usage of large than OEM rims can cause more damage of suspension and transmission.

with the factory 20x7.5 (40.475 Offset) you can run the 245/50R20. it is tire size that came factory on my 2011 nitro heat. the factory 20" rims are actually 20x7.5 if measured correctly. 20x8.5 is the measurement or the rim and tire width on this website. if you change the offset and rim diameter and only sitting stock it will cause rubbing. hope this helps

Widths also come indifferent profiles with different overall heights .245/70r17 and 265/65r17 are the same height and different widths.

Hi! If you have the Nitro R/T I believe 17 inch rims is the lowest you could go with, not 16 inch (I guess you meant 16 inch and not 26 inch?). You do not need to reprogram the computer since the rolling circumference must stay within certain limits, for example 5% maximum either too much or too little.

29 inch is the standard outer rolling diameter on standard wheels, even on 17 inch rims. The narrowed 235 /65 r17 compared to the wider profile 20 inch set up, could allow more movement in a sideways direction within the wheel wells, but given time the ride night may have dropped from age and use. An upgrade in suspension could be a suitable consideration to regain lost ride height. Possibly the existing tires and wheel size can be retained in full function.

well i understand that but my original question still is the same can i run a 26.5 to 27.5 rolling diameter on my 07 nitro. i am willing to accept the ground clearance loss as i hope to improve my off road problem of mud building up on tire and between wheel well and tire causing traction control to mis read road condition.i have 1 mile of poor road to travel and under certain conditions is impassable due to mun build up and traction control not allowing full power to wheel or wheels.

To drop to 26 inch diameter is not the best due to the loss of one and a half inches of ground clearance and a drop of approx 11 percent in traction and gear ratio. The ratio being an increased noise level at cruising speeds, the worst being less traction when breaking on wet and slippery roads.
